Club history

The club was founded by competitive runners on November 9, 1979 in the “Jägerstüberl” of the “ Bischofshof ” hotel . Hans Jordan (†) was elected the first association chairman.

With the 1st International Danube Park Fun Run in cooperation with the Sparkasse Regensburg and the newspaper Die Woche on May 4, 1980, the association organized its first running event.

Alfredo Blasel , Anton Gorbunow and Ludwig-Mario Niedermeier were among the club's successful athletes in the early years . They won the bronze medal in the team competition in the 25 km road race at the German Athletics Championships in 1980 .

On September 2, 1984, the club organized the 1st Bayern Cup road race in the Regensburg industrial park . The organizer was Ludwig-Mario Niedermeier, who also made a significant contribution to the organization of the first event of the Regensburg Marathon on September 16, 1990. The idea of running this city marathon came from the Mittelbayerische Zeitung in 1989 , sponsored by the club's chairman Hans Jordan, Ludwig-Mario Niedermeier, Rainer Pawelke , Holger Stockert and Eva Reiße. On October 29, 1994, the 1st KÖWE Street Run was held.

In the meantime, Thomas Ertl won another bronze medal in the marathon of the German Athletics Championships in 1989 . Bernadette Hudy won silver in the 1992 German Athletics Championships in the marathon. Another successful runner of the club was Hans Hopfner , who won the silver medal in the German Athletics Championships in 1996 in the marathon. Together with Peter Ertl and Ulf Sengenberger , the silver medal could also be won in the team competition.

The building application for the construction of a clubhouse decided in 1999 was rejected. In 2004 the sponsoring company Regensburg Marathon GmbH was founded to organize the city marathon, of which Marion Fuchs became the managing director . In the same year, the first City Mile Run was held, from which the REWAG company run, co-organized by the LCC to this day, developed. In 2007, together with the LG Domspitzmilch Regensburg, the 10th European Senior Championships in road running (10 and 20 km), half marathon, 30 km walking and cross relay were organized.

Ralf Preißl , Marco Benz and Marco Sturm won silver at the German Athletics Championships in 2008 in the team classification in the 11 km mountain run. At the German Athletics Championships in 2009 , Sturm and Preißl and Jörg Bühner were able to achieve third place in the team classification in the 8.9 km mountain run. Sturm and Benz then won silver again together with Korbinian Schönberger at the German Athletics Championships 2010 in the 10.6 km mountain run. At the German Athletics Championships in 2011 , the team Schönberger, Preißl and Sturm then achieved gold in the 8.6 km mountain run. In the individual ranking in this discipline, Schönberger took third place. The team was able to confirm the gold medal in the team competition at the German Athletics Championships in 2012 in the 9.5 km mountain run, as did Schönberger in the individual competition with his bronze medal. The annual spindle run through the Danube shopping center has also been an integral part of the club's life since 2013.

Since 2003, the association has published the membership magazine " Running Out". In 2009 the association had just over 1,500 members. However, the number of members fell again below 1,400 in the following years. According to the club's website, the LCC has almost 1,500 members again today (as of 2017).
