The Regensburger energy and water supply AG & Co KG (abbreviated REWAG ) is a regional energy and water utility supplies, the electricity, natural gas, heat and drinking water to more than 200,000 residential and business customers. Around 425 people are currently employed in the electricity , natural gas , energy-related services and drinking water supply sectors .

history

REWAG Regensburger Energie- und Wasserversorgung AG & Co KG was founded on January 1st, 1976. After the conversion of the Stadtwerke Regensburg into the Gesellschaft Stadtwerke Regensburg GmbH (SWR) on July 1, 1975, the city's own energy and drinking water supply was brought into the REWAG, new GmbHs for the public transport, the baths and the workshops were founded and under the Stadtwerke Regensburg GmbH united as a holding.

The city of Regensburg has a 64.52 percent stake in REWAG through Regensburger Badebetriebe GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stadtwerke Regensburg GmbH. Bayernwerk AG (100% owned by E.ON ) has a 35.48 percent stake in REWAG. The chairwoman of the supervisory board / administrative board of REWAG is Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, mayor of the city of Regensburg.

In addition to the city of Regensburg, the REWAG network area includes the municipalities of Alteglofsheim , Bad Abbach , Barbing , Donaustauf , Köfering , Lappersdorf , Neutraubling , Obertraubling , Pentling , Pettendorf , Regenstauf , Tegernheim , Teugn , Wenzenbach and Zeitlarn .

care

electricity

REWAG sold 1,189.7 million kWh of electricity in 2015, of which it produced 65.5 million kWh (as of 2015) in its own systems, such as photovoltaic systems, wind turbines and combined heat and power plants. The electricity has 367 g CO 2 / kWh and 0.0006 g radioactive waste per kWh.

With rewario.strom.natur , electricity from 100 percent hydropower is offered throughout Germany.

natural gas

REWAG supplies natural gas to over 111,000 residents over an area of 500 square kilometers via a pipeline network that is currently 1,471 kilometers long . In 2015 it sold 1,850.7 million kilowatt hours of natural gas. The subsidiary REGAS GmbH & Co KG generates energy from regenerative sources such as biogas .

Drinking water

REWAG supplies around 164,000 people with drinking water from the Sallern and Oberer Wöhrd waterworks . The company obtains around 80% of the approximately 10 million cubic meters of water that it needs in one year from the Sallern well. The remaining 20% comes from the Oberer Wöhrd waterworks. For quality assurance purposes, 3400 controls are carried out per year in our own laboratory as well as in external laboratories. The water has a value of 17 degrees of German hardness (17 ° dH) and thus falls into the “hard” range.

warmth

REWAG offers home owners, builders, companies and investors a complete solution for heating systems with its heating service. In addition to many residential construction projects, REWAG has recently implemented several large heating projects, such as the supply of Infineon Technologies and Walhalla Kalk.

Renewable Energies

One of the central points of REWAG's strategy is the expansion of self-generation from renewable and energy-efficient systems. In addition to wind energy, one focus is on decentralized heat generation with combined heat and power plants (CHPs). In 2016, 41% of REWAG's electricity for private customers will be generated from renewable energy sources. The company's goal is to expand its own energy generation from renewable energy sources to 60% by 2020. Along with conventional generation, e.g. For example, with natural gas-powered CHP units, REWAG would then produce 86% of the electricity required for private customers itself.

REWAG has been investing continuously in wind turbines since 2011:

  • In May 2017 REWAG announced the investment in the Wetterberg-Laub wind farm in the Tirschenreuth district . The two ENERCON E 101 wind turbines, each with an output of 3 megawatts, a hub height of 149 meters each and a rotor blade diameter of 101 meters, are scheduled to go into operation by the end of the year.
  • October 2015: Opening of the Hohenstein wind farm in the Hessian Taunus . The plant comprises three General Electric GE 2.5-120 wind turbines and has a total output of 7.6 megawatts. The expected annual amount of electricity is around 20 million kilowatt hours. The carbon dioxide saving is around 10.3 tons.
  • September 2015: The Deindorf wind farm goes online. The two Nordex N117 wind turbines are 141 m high and each has an output of 2.4 megawatts. Each year, 3700 single-family houses can be supplied with the electricity generated in this way.
  • October 2014: Handover of the new Tannberg-Lindenhardt wind farm. REWAG invested in the wind project together with Bayreuther Energie- und Wasserversorgungs GmbH and Bayernwerk Natur GmbH. The four three-megawatt wind turbines generate a total of 27 million kilowatt hours of electricity and can thus supply 8,000 single-family houses with electricity for a year.
  • March 2012: Commissioning of the Bärenholz wind turbine. The Bärenholz wind turbine is located in the immediate vicinity of the Fasanerie wind farm. Thanks to technical developments, the Vestas V112 wind turbine is larger and therefore more powerful than a wind turbine from the other models. It will supply around 7.7 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
  • April 2011: Inauguration of the Fasanerie forest wind farm. Five wind turbines with a tower height of 138 meters and an output of two megawatts each produce around 22 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. That is enough to supply around 6,300 households for a year.

In addition to the wind power plants, REWAG also operates 26 combined heat and power plants .

  • End of 2014: Opening of the two CHPs of the Eckert schools in Regenstauf . The decentralized heating project consists of two CHPs in combination with a local heating network. The plant produces around 8 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 9.3 kilowatt hours of heat annually. The carbon dioxide saving is 1700 tons per year. In 2016, REWAG received the Contracting Award for this project, an award for a particularly efficient energy supply.
  • February 2008: Official opening of the plant at Walhalla Kalk GmbH & Co. KG. The biogas- operated CHP unit generates around 5.25 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 3.4 million kilowatt hours of heat annually. The electricity can supply 1500 families with electricity for a year. The use of biogas also protects the environment, because 3600 tons of carbon dioxide can be saved. The CHP not only supplies the production facilities of Walhalla Kalk, but will also efficiently supply the new “Brandlberg” building area with heat as part of a local heating network .

In the 2015 financial year, the wind turbines, combined heat and power plants and photovoltaic systems generated 102.4 million kilowatt hours of electricity. This is an increase of 55.7% compared to the previous year.

Commitment in the region

As a regional service provider, REWAG feels particularly committed to the city of Regensburg and the region. This is expressed in a large number of projects and the active support of clubs, events and campaigns in the cultural, sporting and social fields. REWAG sees itself as a promoter of cultural life and work in the Regensburg region.

Sponsorship

As a municipal company, REWAG founded the Regensburg Cultural Foundation in December 1997. In addition to promoting individual cultural workers, the Regensburg Cultural Foundation has been awarding a prize for outstanding cultural achievements every two years since 2008. With the award of its art prize, the Regensburg Cultural Foundation wants to put dance in the focus of national attention in 2014 - after visual arts, music and literature - and support artists in their work. In addition to the Regensburg Cultural Foundation, REWAG supports the Regensburg Theater, the Ostdeutsche Galerie Art Forum, the Regensburg Castle Festival and various other cultural events in the city.

REWAG is a sponsor of the EV Regensburg ice hockey team , the Buchbinder Legionaries Regensburg baseball team and the SSV Jahn Regensburg soccer team .

The company supports the Regensburg Children's Citizens' Festival , the Bavarian Jazzweekend and the REWAG-Cup youth soccer tournament. With the “Night in Blue”, REWAG and the Ostdeutsche Galerie art forum have been holding an annual festival in the art forum and the adjacent Regensburg city park since 2005.

The “Safe with the bike to school” campaign has been a joint campaign by the traffic police, the agency for experience-oriented learning temprament-event GbR and REWAG since 2000. In 2011 bicycles were tested for roadworthiness at over 30 schools.

A large part of the REWAG workforce has been donating the cents from their pay slips since 2004.
