history

Until the 19th century

Wenzenbach was already called Menzinpah in the 9th century , derived from the proper name Menzo . The place name means "to the brook of Menzo". The Regensburg bishop Ambricho recorded exchanges or gifts of goods several times in his domous episcopus in marca ad Menzinpah (= house of the bishop in the Wenzenbach corridor).

On September 12, 1504, the Battle of Schönberg took place here. The last great knight battle of the Middle Ages decided the Landshut War of Succession .

From 1614 Wenzenbach belonged to the Counts of Lerchenfeld , from 1751 to the Barons of Stingelheim and was part of the Electorate of Bavaria. Wenzenbach was the seat of the Schönberg estate, gifted with the blood spell . The Stingelheim family remained in the possession of Schönberg until 1817, when Karl Alexander von Thurn und Taxis bought the rule. In 1818 the political community of Schönberg was established, but it was subordinate to the first class patrimonial court of the Princes of Thurn and Taxis at Schönberg Palace . This also administered the patrimonial courts Bernhardswald and Wiesent . The last remnants of the aristocracy were abolished in the revolution of 1848 .

In 1924 the municipality of Schönberg was officially renamed Wenzenbach .
