history

Until the church is planted

A first document from the year 798 for the place Egilolfesheim turned out to be a forgery of the 11th century. The parish village was reliably mentioned for the first time in the 10th century as Egilolfesheim . The spelling Alteglofsheim has been in use since 1867. The place name is derived from the personal name Agilolf / Egilolf and the old high German home . To distinguish it from the Kirchdorf Neueglofsheim in the same district, the addition Alt- was added. The place was part of the Electorate of Bavaria . Alteglofsheim was a Hofmark in the Haidau-Pfatter district court. Various noble families held the land and court rule, including the Eglofsheimers, named after the place, who were episcopal ministerials from the middle of the 12th to the end of the 14th century . The name Alteglofsheim only came into use with the construction of Neueglofsheim Castle (first mentioned in 1314, today Schloss Haus). Alteglofsheim Castle , which emerged from a medieval moated castle, was bought in 1658 by Baron (from 1685 Imperial Count) Johann Georg I von Königsfeld. The castle experienced its heyday under the imperial count Johann Georg II von Königsfeld († 1750). Around 1810 the Hofmark passed to the barons of Cetto. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

lock

The Castle Alteglofsheim evolved from a medieval moated castle, the multiple owners, among others, it was the bishops of Regensburg and the Bavarian dukes changed since the Middle Ages. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the baroque expansion was carried out by the imperial counts of Königsfeld , who acquired the castle as barons in 1658/1659. After the Königsfeld family died out, the castle came under the ownership of the royal Thurn und Taxis family in 1835, and after 1937/1939 it was owned by a pastor and then by his housekeeper. In 1973 the Free State of Bavaria acquired the property shortly before it went into complete ruin. After extensive renovation work between 1992 and 2002, it houses the "Bavarian Music Academy Schloss Alteglofsheim", one of three Bavarian music academies that was founded in 1989 by resolution of the Bavarian Council of Ministers. In May 1991 the Free State of Bavaria, the districts of Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate, the district of Regensburg, the district-free city of Regensburg, the municipality of Alteglofsheim and the Bavarian Music Council merged to form the "Zweckverband Bayerische Musikakademie Alteglofsheim" in order to start running the music academy after the renovation work from 1999 record. The official inauguration took place on September 22, 2000. In June 2003 the extensive gardens were also handed over to the association as a tenant.

Alteglofsheim Castle

Alteglofsheim Castle
Alteglofsheim Castle after a copper engraving by Michael Wening from 1721

The late Gothic core of Alteglofsheim Castle with the keep dates from the beginning of the 14th century. Several modifications and additions were made in the 17th and 18th centuries under the imperial counts of Königsfeld. In 1679/80 the baroque extension with the eight so-called beautiful rooms on the upper floor and the two-aisled house chapel on the ground floor was built according to plans by Enrico Zuccalli , the baron and later imperial count Johann Georg I von Königsfeld . The rooms designed by Giovanni Battista Carlone ( Kaisersaal ), Johann Gebhard fromprüfunging (ceiling fresco in the Red Room ) and Jakob Heybel are the first example in Bavaria of parade rooms in a sequence of rooms designed according to the French model. Imperial Count Johann Georg II von Königsfeld had the facade, garden and south wing redesigned from 1728 to 1734 with the participation of artists such as Johann Baptist Zimmermann and François de Cuvilliés . Particularly noteworthy is the Asam-Salettl, which was built in 1730 by Cosmas Damian and Egid Quirin Asam . The ceiling fresco by Cosmas Damian Asam shows Apollo on the sun chariot. A tour of the castle is only possible for groups by appointment.

The entry fees will be donated to the AIDS Foundation in South Africa .
