Hochfellnberglauf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hochfellnberglauf is a mountain run on the Hochfelln , the local mountain of the municipality of Bergen in Chiemgau . Over a length of 8.9 kilometers, 1,074 meters of altitude must be covered.

history

Every year on the last weekend in September, after the so-called preparation period for cross-country skiers and before the start of the snow training measures on the Dachstein Glacier, the young Nordic skiers from the Bergen Ski Club took a stamina test on Bergen's local mountain, Hochfelln, under the guidance of instructor Georg Anfang. In 1974 the labor-intensive test was converted into an open event and the run was published in the calendar of the Bavarian Ski Association.

Although the mountain running discipline has not yet been practiced competitively in Germany, 80 participants, mostly in mountain boots and pretty much all with ski sticks, took up the offer straight away. The competitive sport discipline mountain running was born. However, after two years of accident-free operation, the organizer refrained from the original form of competition, after a certain rest and also contesting the Hochfelln-Kohlstatt (1674 m - 800 m) downhill, so to speak, over hill and dale. Even if the proponents emphasized that this type of competition had been practiced in America for years by the Alpines for coordination training, the majority of the club was of the opinion that the risk of injury was too great to continue this downhill run, in which the former professional skier Raimund Bohn from ESV Traunstein held the course record with 12: 14.1 minutes.

SC Bergen worked consistently on the image of the event. Initially, the participants were limited to the region, then it was advertised throughout Bavaria, and since the late 1970s, the Hochfellnberglauf has also received international paint. Most of the time, Nordic top athletes signed up for the list of winners. Later, after the majority of athletes and the German Athletics Association (DLV) took over the umbrella organization, ski poles were banned. The big breakthrough came with the commitment of Patriz Ilg . On the occasion of the start of the world and European championships, a half-hour report was broadcast by TV Südwestfunk.

From then on, mostly 200 runners took part. The Hochfellnberglauf was integrated several times into the German Mountain Running Cup DLV racing series , which was considered the forerunner of the German Mountain Running Championships. Bergen was already the host in the second year of official German championships, and a second time in 1996. September 1989 an official GDR team competed in the five-country match between Germany, GDR, Italy, Austria and Italy in Bergen. The official team was accompanied by six active and ten accredited masseurs, trainers and supervisors.

The absolute highlight was the implementation of the mountain running world championship 2000 with 5000 spectators on both days.

The Hochfellnberglauf has been part of the competition series since the start of the Berglauf Grand Prix. 1997 and 1998 as an independent organization with partners Telfes / Austria, Lenzerheide / Switzerland and Susa / Italy, 2001 and 2002 with Telfes, Matterhorn run Zermatt / Switzerland, Großglockner run Heiligenblut / Austria and Dreizinnen run Sexten / Italy. In 1999, 2003 and 2004 the Berglauf Grand Prix was organized as part of the WMRA Grand Prix. Due to disagreements with the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA), the originator of the mountain running Grand Prix, the Bergen Ski Club, decided to finally withdraw from the series (I) in 2005 and has been directing the “Grand Prix of Germany” since then out.

In 2009 the German Mountain Running Championships were held for the third time and for the fourth time in 2013 as part of the Hochfellnberg Run .
