Helmut Schmuck (born April 7, 1963 in Sankt Martin bei Lofer ) is an Austrian marathon and mountain runner . He is an Olympian (1992), two-time world (1992, 1994) and European champion in mountain running (1995, 1997) and multiple Austrian champion (22 ×).

Career

In 1988 Schmuck finished second in the Vienna City Marathon in 2:17:50 h and in 1990 he was the best Austrian in 2:13:17 h and came third.

Helmut Schmuck started the marathon at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, ​​where he finished 47th.

In 1993 he became the Austrian marathon champion in Pinkafeld.

In the mountain run he won the Schlickeralm run in 1993 and 1994 . In 1997 he won the first edition of the WMRA World Cup (back then still known as the “Alpine Grand Prix”) and won the Hochfellnberg Run (8.9 km with 1074 m).

In July 2003 the 40-year-old declared his active time over after winning the silver medal at the European Mountain Running Championships in Trento.

In 2011 he headed the Austrian national mountain running team (2011 squad: Andrea Mayr , Karin Freitag , Sabine Reiner , Alexander Rieder, Simon Lechleitner , Peter Pripfl, Markus Hohenwarter ).
