Jonathan Wyatt (born December 20, 1972 in Lower Hutt ) is a New Zealand long-distance runner and has been the dominant mountain runner in the world since the late 1990s . He won the world championship in mountain running in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Career

Wyatt won his first four world championship titles on pure uphill routes, which are always chosen in the even years for the world championships on the normal distance.

In 2005 he took part in the Uphill-Downhill World Championships for the second time and won them for the first time, although he actually preferred pure uphill routes.

In 2006 he finished second at the World Mountain Running Championships . In 2007 he won the world championships on the long distance as part of the Jungfrau Marathon (42.2 kilometers in length; 1829 meters uphill; 305 meters downhill). In 2008 he won the world championship again on an uphill stretch in Crans-Montana .

In the years 1999 to 2003 he was also undefeated in the flight of stairs . Among other things, he holds the record on the KL Tower (2058 steps) in Malaysia .

He is an eight-time winner of the WMRA World Cup (1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009).

At the 2010 Mountain Running World Championships in the Slovenian city of Kamnik , he finished eighth; his wife Antonella Confortola Wyatt finished sixth.

He has not appeared internationally since 2011. Today he works in the development team of the Trento company La Sportiva .

Private

Since May 2009 he has been married to the Italian cross-country skier and mountain runner Antonella Confortola (* 1975) and they both live in Ziano di Fiemme ( Fiemme Valley ).
