Stella Chesang (born December 1, 1996 in Namoryo ) is a Ugandan long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Stella Chesang gained her first international experience at the World Cross Country Championships 2013 in Bydgoszcz , where she took 14th place in the junior class. Then she was fourth at the Youth World Championships in Donetsk with 9: 11.03 min in the 3000 meter run . In the following year she also finished fourth at the Junior World Championships in Eugene with 15: 53.85 min in the 5000 meter run . She then took part in the African Championships in Marrakech , but had to end her race there prematurely. At the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang she was eleventh in the U20 category and won the bronze medal over 5000 meters at the Junior African Championships in Addis Ababa in 17: 04.91 min. Over this distance she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro the following year , where she was eliminated with 15: 49.80 minutes in the lead-up .

At the 2017 World Cross Country Championships in Kampala , she was 18th in the general ranking and was eliminated at the World Championships in London with 15: 23.02 min in the first round . The following year she took part for the first time in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she won the 10,000 meter run in 31: 45.30 minutes ahead of Kenyan Stacey Chepkemboi Ndiwa and her compatriot Mercyline Chelangat . At the 2019 World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus she reached 21st place in 38:14 minutes and was seventh over 5000 meters in 15: 49.87 minutes at the Africa Games in Rabat in August . At the end of September she took part in the 10,000 m World Championships in Doha , where she came in 16th after 32: 15.20 minutes .
