The city of Guiyang ( Chinese 貴陽 市 / 贵阳 市 , Pinyin Guìyáng Shì ) is the capital of the Guizhou Province in the southwest of the People's Republic of China . The city is also called Lincheng ( 林 城 , Línchéng - "forest city").
location
Guiyang is located in the middle of Guizhou Province in the east of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau on the north bank of the Nanming River , which is a tributary of the Wu Jiang . The city is located at an altitude of 1,070 meters above sea level. NN in a plateau surrounded by mountains.

Population development of the agglomeration

history
There was an urban settlement in the area of today's Guiyang city as early as the Han Dynasty . The city itself was founded as a military base in 1283 during the Yuan Dynasty . Her name at the time Shunyuan (順 元) means loyal to the yuan .
During the Ming Dynasty , the city was called Xinggui and was surrounded by the city wall, which is still partially preserved today. The city was given its current name Guiyang in the early years of the Chinese Republic in 1913.
Guiyang has been a city since 1941.
Attractions
Literary pavilion
The "pavilion des literati" (Jiaxiu Lou) is a 20 meter high building in the city center, which was built in 1689.
Qianling Mountain
From the 1,300 meter high Qianling Mountain (黔灵山 Qianling Shan) you have a good view over the city of Guiyang. The Hongfu Temple , which was founded in the Qing Dynasty in 1672, stands on it.
Qianlingshan Park

Economy and Transport
The industrial city of Guiyang is the economic center of Guizhou Province. The GNP per capita in 2003 was ¥ 11728 (approx. 1200 euros). The Guizhou Cloud Big Data Industry Development (GCBD) company is based in Guiyang . Among other things, the iCloud data of Chinese Apple customers is stored there.
Industry
Guiyang is located in the midst of important raw material deposits. Mining is therefore an important branch of industry. Guiyang is also an important location for the processing industry, such as the iron and steel industry (especially non-ferrous metals, aluminum), artificial fertilizer production and mechanical engineering. There are also companies in the textile industry. A large part of the electricity is generated by many hydropower plants on the surrounding rivers.
Subway
In 2010, the State Development and Reform Commission approved the construction of Guiyang Subway . The first section of Line 1 was opened in December 2017, followed by the second in December 2018. The long-term plans envisage a total of nine lines with a total length of 467 km and 258 stations; In addition to the opened Line 1, four more are under construction or in planning as of summer 2019.

Guiyang is connected by railroad lines to Chongqing (463 kilometers), Kunming (639 kilometers) and Changsha (953 kilometers).

Guiyang is the center of the Guizhou Province road network. There is also an expressway from Guiyang to the port city of Beihai in Guangxi.

The Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport is a major hub in southwest China, mainly for domestic flights.
Science and culture
Guiyang's largest secondary educational institution is Guizhou University and Technical University , the predecessor of which was founded in 1902. The university has 20 faculties and today around 32,000 full-time students. In addition, one of the three locations for the geology department within the Chinese Academy of Sciences is located in Guiyang .
