The city of Guiyang ( Chinese  貴陽 市  /  贵阳 市 , Pinyin Guìyáng Shì ) is the capital of the Guizhou Province in the southwest of the People's Republic of China . The city is also called Lincheng ( 林 城 , Línchéng  - "forest city").

location

Guiyang is located in the middle of Guizhou Province in the east of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau on the north bank of the Nanming River , which is a tributary of the Wu Jiang . The city is located at an altitude of 1,070 meters above sea level. NN in a plateau surrounded by mountains.

history

There was an urban settlement in the area of ​​today's Guiyang city as early as the Han Dynasty . The city itself was founded as a military base in 1283 during the Yuan Dynasty . Her name at the time Shunyuan (順 元) means loyal to the yuan .

During the Ming Dynasty , the city was called Xinggui and was surrounded by the city wall, which is still partially preserved today. The city was given its current name Guiyang in the early years of the Chinese Republic in 1913.

Guiyang has been a city since 1941.

Literary pavilion

The "pavilion des literati" (Jiaxiu Lou) is a 20 meter high building in the city center, which was built in 1689.

Qianling Mountain
