Mercyline Chelangat (born December 17, 1997 in Kokwo ) is a Ugandan long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Mercyline Chelangat gained her first international experience at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang , where she took 26th place in the junior class. The following year she was fourth in the 5000 meter run at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz in 15: 34.09 min . At the 2017 Cross Country World Championships in Kampala , she was 12th overall and qualified for the World Championships in London . There she retired over 5000 meters with 15: 16.75 minutes in the first lap , while she finished 13th in the 10,000 meter run in 31: 40.48 minutes . In the following year she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and won the bronze medal over 10,000 meters in 31: 48.31 minutes behind her compatriot Stella Chesang and Stacey Chepkemboi Ndiwa from Kenya. In addition, she was eleventh in the 5000 meter competition in 15: 50.01 min.

In 2013 Chelangat was Ugandan champion in obstacle course and in 2017 over 5000 meters.
