The Vienna City Marathon (until 1993 the Vienna Spring Marathon ) is the largest marathon in Austria and has been held annually in Vienna every spring since 1984 . In addition to the 42.195 km route, a half marathon and a relay marathon are also offered. In 2020 the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

route

The route begins at the Vienna International Center , crosses the Danube on the Reichsbrücke and leads over the Praterstern into the Wiener Prater , on the left bank of the Danube Canal to the Aspernbrücke and past the Urania onto the Ringstrasse . At the State Opera she leaves the Ring, leads over the left Wienzeile to Schönbrunn Palace and over Mariahilfer Straße back towards Ringstraße. Since 2016, the marathon runners have been turning onto the Museum Square, while the half marathon runners have been running onto the Ringstrasse and the finish line in front of the Burgtheater . The sightseeing tour in running shorts continues for the marathon runners behind the town hall , then the route leads to the Alsergrund , there on the Friedensbrücke it crosses the Danube Canal and further over the left bank of the Danube Canal it reaches the Prater a second time. After another round of the Prater past the Ernst Happel Stadium and the Lusthaus , it goes over the Franzensbrücke again on the Ringstrasse to the finish in front of the Burgtheater.

history
