Gilbert Kipruto Kirwa (* 1985 ) is a Kenyan marathon runner .

The Nandi athlete is from Embu , but his family moved to Eldoret when he was a child . He started running when he was 20 years old. He was unemployed at the time and was invited by his Ugandan friend Nicholas Kiprono to train with him. In 2008 his training partner took him Jason Mbote with the Seoul International Marathon to be there as a pacemaker to act. Kirwa did the job so well that Dutch manager Gerard van de Veen signed him.

In the following season he won the Vienna City Marathon in 2:08:21 h on his debut over the 42.195 km distance . In the summer he set a course record at the Hamburg half marathon with 1:01:52 h. He also broke the course record at the Frankfurt Marathon and won with a world-class time of 2:06:14.

Kirwa lives and trains in Eldoret, where he bought a piece of land with his prize money.
