Christa Vahlensieck

Christa Vahlensieck , b. Kofferschläger (until 1974) (born May 27, 1949 in Düsseldorf ) is a former German long-distance runner and pioneer of the women's marathon .

Life

On October 28, 1973 in Waldniel , she was the first German woman to manage a marathon under three hours (2:59:26 h; under the name Christa Kofferschläger). She set another German record with 2:53:00 h on April 15, 1974 at the Boston Marathon . Both times were European bests at the same time.

In the same year she won the Essen marathon in 2:42:38 h. The time was not recognized as a world record, however, as the distance turned out to be 745 meters too short.

On May 3, 1975, she set a world record in Dülmen with 2:40:16 h. In the same year she became the first German female marathon champion at the Black Forest Marathon in 2:45:43 hours, a time that is still a record today. On September 10, 1977, she set another world record in the Berlin Marathon with 2:34:48 h.

At the World Championships in Helsinki in 1983 , she finished 19th (2:40:43 h).

From 1973 to 1989 she won 21 marathons, including the Berlin Marathon in 1977, the Košice Peace Marathon five times (1981, 1984, 1986–1988) and in 1989 the Vienna Spring Marathon .

She was eighteen times German champion of the Federal Republic:

  • in marathons in 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980
  • in the 25-kilometer road race in 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1980
  • in the 15-kilometer road race in 1988
  • in long-distance cross - country skiing in 1974 and 1978
  • in the team classification of the cross-country run in 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974 and 1975

Christa Vahlensieck initially belonged to the sports club Düsseldorfer SC 99 and switched to Barmer TV 1846 Wuppertal in 1969 . During her competition time she weighed 50 kg and was 1.60 m tall.

Awards

Vahlensieck was honored in 2013 by German Road Races eV for her “running life's work” with the first GRR Award.
