The Ottawa Marathon (until 2002 National Capital Marathon; until 2008 full name ING Ottawa Marathon ) is a marathon that has been held in Ottawa since 1975 . A half marathon is held together with the marathon ; In addition, since 1986 a 10 km road run (MDS Nordion 10k) has been taking place the day before , which together with a marathon, half marathon and a 5 km run forms the Ottawa Race Weekend .

The start of the marathon is in the city center at the Palace of Justice of the Province of Ottawa. On Parliament Hill , we hike across the Ottawa River to Gatineau . Return to Ottawa via the Alexandria Bridge . It joins a loop through the districts northeast of the Rideau River . The second half of the course runs south along the east bank of the Rideau Canal and along the west bank back into the city center to the finish at Cartier Square Drill Hall. The half marathon route is identical to the marathon route, with the loop beyond the Rideau River and the southern part of the route along the canal being omitted. Most of the 10 km run runs along the canal.

In 2006 a group of 14 athletes, among them the Kenyan Amos Tirop Matui , who was the first to arrive at the finish in a time of 2:10:32 h , was misled and accidentally ran a 400 m shorter distance. The times and placements of these runners were marked as "not ratified" in the official leaderboard, and those of them who would have won prize money in normal racing were given compensation.
