Arata Fujiwara ( Japanese 藤原 新 , Fujiwara Arata ; born September 12, 1981 in Isahaya , Nagasaki Prefecture ) is a Japanese marathon runner .

Life

In 2006 he finished sixth in the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon , but shortly afterwards broke in his debut over the 42.195 km distance and came in at the Biwa Marathon in 2:38:37 h on 85th place.

The following year he was second behind Viktor Röthlin in the Tokyo Marathon in 2:08:40 h. He was then nominated as a substitute for the Olympic Games in Beijing . After a disappointing performance at the Chicago Marathon , in which he came in 16th place, he finished third in the Fukuoka Marathon in 2:09:47 hours at the end of the year .

After he only came in 61st place at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in 2009 , he finished second behind Masakazu Fujiwara (to whom he is not related) in the 2010 Tokyo Marathon in stormy and freezing weather in 2:12:34 h. At the Ottawa Marathon , he then set a course record of 2:09:34.

Arata Fujiwara is 1.67 m tall and weighs 54 kg. He graduated from Isahaya High School and Takushoku University . Since 2004 he started for the company team of East Japan Railway Company . On March 31, 2010, he resigned from this position because the given schedule for competitions was too tight for him, and has since started as an independent athlete.
