Masakazu Fujiwara

Masakazu Fujiwara ( Japanese 藤原 正 和 , Fujiwara Masakazu ; born March 6, 1981 ) is a Japanese long-distance runner who specializes in road running.

In 2001 he won the gold medal in the half marathon at the Universiade . The following year he was third in the Lake Biwa marathon in 2:08:12 h, until today (as of 2010) the fastest debut of a Japanese over this distance.

As a result, he repeatedly had to struggle with injuries, which he attributes to overtraining .

In 2005 he was second in the Ōme marathon over 30 km, in 2008 he was ninth in the Lake Biwa marathon in 2:12:07.

In 2010 he started for the third time over the 42.195 km distance and won the Tokyo Marathon in adverse weather conditions in 2:12:19 h.

Masakazu Fujiwara comes from Ōkawachi (now part of Kamikawa ) in Hyōgo prefecture and is a graduate of Chūō University . He starts for the team from Honda .
