Isahaya ( Japanese 諫 早市 , -shi ) is a city in Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan .
geography
Isahaya is north of Nagasaki and west of Fukuoka .
The community is surrounded by water on three sides. In the east is the Ariake Sea , in the south the Tachibana Bay and in the west the Ōmura Bay . The latter two are separated from each other by the Shimabara Peninsula in southeast Isahaya.
history
The city was named shi on September 1, 1940 .
On July 25, 1957, there was a record flood in which 630 people died. This led to the transfer of the Meganebashi Bridge to Isahaya Park and the victims are commemorated every year with a Buddhist lantern festival .
