Alia Saeed Mohammed (born May 18, 1991 as Medina Kadir ) is a long-distance runner from Ethiopia who has been running for the United Arab Emirates since 2010 .

Athletic career

Medina Kadir gained her first international experience at the Youth World Championships 2007 in Ostrava , where she was eliminated for Ethiopia starting over 800 meters in the first round, as well as at the Junior World Championships 2008 in Bydgoszcz . In 2010 she changed nation and changed her name to Alia Saeed Mohammed. In 2011 she took part in the Asian Championships in Kobe , where she finished fourth over 5000 meters. She also qualified for the World Championships in Daegu , where she was eliminated over 5000 meters in the preliminary run. At the Arab Championships in al-Ain , she won the silver medals over 1500 and 5000 meters. Shortly afterwards she won the gold medal over 5000 meters at the Pan-Arab Games in Doha . In 2012, she finished eighth over 1500 meters and fourth over 3000 meters at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou . At the indoor world championships in Istanbul , she finished twelfth over 3000 meters.

In 2013 she won the silver medal over 10,000 meters at the Asian Championships in Pune and took fourth place over 5000 meters. In 2014 she won the bronze medal over 3000 meters at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou in 8: 56.78 minutes and was again twelfth at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot . At the end of the year she was the winner of the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, over 10,000 meters and took sixth place over 5000 meters. In 2015 she won the gold medal over 10,000 meters at the Asian Championships in Wuhan , setting a new championship record of 32: 39.39 minutes. She won the silver medal over 5000 meters. As Asian champion, she received a bye for the World Championships in Beijing , where she could not finish her run over 10,000 meters . In 2016 she won the silver medal over 3000 meters at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha after the original winner Betlhem Desalegn was subsequently disqualified for doping. She also qualified over 10,000 meters for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she finished 23rd in the final .

In 2017 she won the bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku and was fourth in the 5000 meters. At the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar , she won the silver medal over 5000 meters and had to finish her run over 10,000 meters. At the beginning of September she won the gold medal over 3000 meters at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat in 9: 25.03 min. In 2018 she finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run at the Asian Games in Jakarta in 21: 18.32 minutes .
