Sun Yingjie

Sun Yingjie ( Chinese  孫英傑  /  孙英杰 , Pinyin Sūn Yīngjié , born January 19, 1979 in Liaoning Province ) is a Chinese long-distance runner .

Already in 1998 she became the Chinese marathon champion in Tianjin in 2:25:45 h. In 2002 she then won the Beijing Marathon in 2:21:21 hours, in which she finished second in 2000.

In both the 5000 and 10,000 meters she won gold at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan .

At the World Athletics Championships in 2003 in Paris / Saint-Denis, she finished third behind the Ethiopians Berhane Adere and Werknesh Kidane over 10,000 meters in her personal best of 30: 07.20 min , after she had ensured the pace for a long time and only in the last Lap had been overtaken. In the 5000 Meters was ninth. Shortly afterwards she became Asian champion over both distances in Manila , and she won the Beijing Marathon with the Asian record of 2:19:39 h.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she was only eighth over 5000 and sixth over 10,000 meters, but she won the title at the World Half Marathon Championships in New Delhi in the fall and won the Beijing Marathon again.

At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , she was eleventh over 5000 and seventh over 10,000 meters. Two days after she won the Beijing marathon for the fourth time in a row with a time of 2:21:01 h, she competed in the Chinese Championships over 10,000 meters and tested positive for androsterone after finishing second .

She accused a fellow athlete of giving her the substance in a drink and won a civil case against him. However, the Chinese Athletics Federation took the position that an athlete was responsible for what he ingested and imposed a two-year ban.

Sun has a competition weight of 52 kg with a height of 1.64 m.
