The Great Manchester Run is a 10 km road race that has been held in Manchester since 2003 . Like the Great North Run and Great South Run, it is part of the Great Run series from Nova International Limited and is one of the most popular running events in the United Kingdom .
In 2009 the event was supplemented by the Great City Games , for which a 150-meter track was laid out. The sprint race over the rarely held distance was won by the Jamaican Olympic champion Usain Bolt in the world best time of 14.35 seconds; in the women won Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie from the Bahamas in 16.54 s.
At the Great CityGames Manchester 2010, the American Tyson Gay broke Tommie Smith's 44-year-old world best (19.5 s) for a 200-meter run on a straight with 19.41 seconds .
