The Nagoya Marathon ( Japanese 名古屋 国際 女子 マ ラ ソ ン , Nagoya Kokusai Joshi Marason, Eng. “Nagoya International Women's Marathon ”) is a marathon for women that has been held in Nagoya since 1984 in March . It is organized by the Japan Association of Athletics Foundations (JAAF) and the Chūnichi Shimbun . From 1980 to 1983 there was a race over 20 km.
In 2011, the event was canceled because a major earthquake had struck eastern Japan two days earlier .
In 2012 the race, which until then was reserved for the female running elite, was opened to amateur runners.
