Nanae Sasaki

Nanae Sasaki ( Japanese 佐 々 木 七 恵 , Sasaki Nanae, after marriage Nanae Nagata, 永田 七 恵 , Nagata Nanae´ ; born February 8, 1956 in Ōfunato ; † June 27, 2009 ) was a Japanese marathon runner .

The graduate of Nippon Sport Science University switched from middle-distance running to marathon in the late 1970s under the guidance of Kiyoshi Nakamura, who also trained Toshihiko Seko .

In 1980 she won the premiere of the Chūnichi Speed ​​20 km (the forerunner of the Nagoya Marathon ) and the 20 km of Sapporo and was ninth in the Tokyo International Women's Marathon . The following year she came in 13th place in the Boston Marathon with the Japanese best time of 2:41:48 h and was fifth in Tokyo.

In 1982 she finished eleventh in the Osaka Women's Marathon . As the winner of the Christchurch Marathon , she set another Japanese record with 2:35:00, and at the end of the season she finished fourth in Tokyo.

After her victory in Tokyo in 1983, she was nominated for the premiere of the women's marathon at the 1984 Olympic Games . In Los Angeles, she finished 19th in 2:37:04.

After winning the Nagoya Marathon in 1985, she ended her athletic career and got married. She became a mother of two and worked as a trainer and consultant for her old team, the corporate team at S&B Foods.

At the age of 53 she succumbed to colon cancer .
