The Sankei Shimbun ( Japanese . 産経新聞 ) is a Japanese national daily. It is the sixth largest newspaper in Japan with about 2.19 million circulation and has the largest number of readers in the Kinki region . In this region it will also appear in an evening edition with 635,000 copies.
The name Sankei is an abbreviated word from Sangyō ( 産業 , "industry") and Keizai ( 経 済 , "economy"), so that the name of the newspaper literally means "industrial and business newspaper". It sees itself more as nationalist , anti-communist , conservative , anti- CCP , and pro- USA . With Asahi Shimbun , who, on the contrary, sees itself as left-wing liberal, they often argue on the editorials.
On October 1, 2007, the newspaper launched MSN Sankei News, an online cooperation with MSN Japan .
