Sapporo half marathon
The Sapporo Half Marathon ( Japanese 札幌 国際 ハ ー フ マ ラ ソ ン 大会 , Sapporo Kokusai hāfumarason taikai; English Sapporo International Half Marathon ) was a road race that took place in Sapporo from 1958 to 2012 . It was organized by the Japanese Athletics Federation JAAF, Yomiuri Shimbun , Sapporo Television Broadcasting and the Sapporo Health Sports Foundation.
Until 1973 it was run as a marathon and was called the Hokkai Times Marathon. From 1974 to 1986 the route was 30 km long. In 1980 the competition was expanded to include a women’s race over 20 km. In 1986 this distance became a half marathon . Since 1987 the men have also completed a 21.0975 km route.
It received its final name in 1990 after the Hokkai Times withdrew from the event. In December 2012, the organizers announced the end of the event.
The route was a turning point course in the center of Sapporo with start and finish in Maruyama Stadium.
