Martin Irungu Mathathi

Martin Irungu Mathathi (born December 25, 1985 in Nyahururu ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Life

In 2005 he was fifth over 10,000 m at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki . On November 23rd of this year he set a world record in the marathon relay with Josphat Muchiri Ndambiri , Daniel Muchunu Mwangi , Mekubo Mogusu , Onesmus Nyerre and John Kariuki in Chiba with 1:57:06 h . In 2006 he won the bronze medal at the World Cross Country Championships in Fukuoka .

In 2007 he started again over 10,000 m at the World Championships in Osaka . In this race Mathathi accelerated with three laps to go and only Kenenisa Bekele and Sileshi Sihine were able to follow him. In the final sprint, Mathathi was defeated by the more powerful Ethiopians and came third in 27: 12.17 minutes. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he finished seventh over the same distance.

In 2010 he won the Parelloop and the Sendai Half Marathon. A second place in the Sapporo Half Marathon was followed by victory in the last edition of the Nagoya Half Marathon.

In 2011 he won the Gifu half marathon and finished fifth over 10,000 m at the World Championships in Daegu . In the autumn he set course records at the Great North Run and the Great Edinburgh Run .

Martin Irungu Mathathi is 1.65 m and weighs 49 kg. He starts for the Suzuki company team .
