Ōita ( Japanese 大分 市 , - shi ) is a city and port city as well as the administrative seat of Ōita prefecture and is located on the Japanese island of Kyūshū on the Beppu Bay .
history
Ōita is an old castle town where a branch of the Ōgyū-Matsudaira last resided with an income of 22,000 koku .

Oita TS Semiconductor is a joint venture between Toshiba and Sony Computer Entertainment . This company was involved in the production of the main processor of the PlayStation 2 , the so-called Emotion Engine, and parts around the graphics processor of the PlayStation 3 .

Sports
Ōita is the home of the Ōita Trinita football club from the J. League , whose games are played in the Kyūshū Sekiyu Dome . This was also a venue for the 2002 World Cup .
The Beppu-Ōita marathon has been taking place between Beppu and Ōita since 1952 .
