Bungo-Ōno ( Japanese 豊 後 大野 市 , -shi ) is a city in Ōita prefecture in Japan .

geography

Bungo-Ōno is southeast of Ōita , east of Taketa, and west of Saiki and Usuki .

history

The city was formed on March 31, 2005 from the parishes Asaji ( 朝 地 町 , -machi ), Inukai ( 犬 飼 町 , -machi ), Mie ( 三重 町 , -machi ), Ogata ( 緒 方 町 , -machi ) and Ōno ( 大野 町 , -machi ), as well as the villages of Chitose ( 千 歳 村 , -mura ) and Kiyokawa ( 清 川村 , -mura ) of the Ōno district . The district was thus dissolved. While the second part of the name of Bungo-Ōno refers to this district, the first comes from the province of Bungo, which previously covered the area of the prefecture.
