Erick Wainaina

Erick Wainaina (also Eric Wainaina , born December 19, 1973 in Nyahururu ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who won two Olympic medals in the marathon .

At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta he was third, just eight seconds behind the winner Josia Thugwane (RSA) and five seconds on second Lee Bong-ju (KOR). At the 2000 Games in Sydney he was second behind Gezahegne Abera (ETH). In his third Olympic marathon, he finished seventh at the 2004 Athens Games .

Further successes are three victories in the Hokkaidō Marathon (1994, 1997, 2003), two victories in the Nagano Marathon (2000, 2003), the victory in the Tokyo International Men's Marathon in 2002 and a fourth place in the Commonwealth Games in 2002 . In 1998 he won the Sapporo Half Marathon .

In 2006 he finished third in the Honolulu Marathon . In Nagano in 2008 he came in 13th and was tenth in 2010.

At Lake Saroma-100-km ultramarathon in 2010 he won the first African athlete.

Erick Wainaina is 1.75 m tall and weighs 68 kg.
