Duncan Kibet Kirong after winning the 2009 Rotterdam Marathon

Duncan Kibet Kirong (born April 25, 1978 with Eldoret ) is a Kenyan marathon runner .

After breaking his leg in a car accident at the age of 16, he initially didn't think about starting running. The success of his older brother Luke Metto made him rethink.

In 2004 he won the Lille half marathon , and in 2005 he finished second in Lille and the Delhi half marathon .

In 2006 he won the first edition of the San José Half Marathon in 1:00:22 h, the second fastest time that had ever been achieved on US soil over this distance up to that point.

In 2008 he finished second in the Vienna City Marathon and set a course record in the Milan Marathon with 2:07:53 h.

He celebrated his biggest triumph so far in 2009 at the Rotterdam Marathon . There he won with a wafer-thin lead over the simultaneous James Kipsang Kwambai . With a time of 2:04:27 he became the second fastest person over this distance behind Haile Gebrselassie (as of April 2009). At the Berlin Marathon 2009 there was a meeting between the two. While Haile Gebrselassie won, but missed the targeted world record, Kirong had to retire after 32 km due to a hip problem.

In 2010 he finished fourth in the Lisbon Half Marathon , but did not finish again in the London Marathon .

Duncan Kibet Kirong is trained by the Italian Claudio Berardelli. Its unusual appearance has earned it the nicknames "Rasta" and "Jamaican". His younger brother Shadrack Kiptoo Biwott is also a successful long-distance runner.
