Tigist Tufa (born January 26, 1987 ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner and Olympian (2016).

Career

In 2008, Tigist Tufa won the Lille half marathon in France . In 2013 she lived in New York City in the Bronx for a year .

Course record Shanghai Marathon 2014

In May 2014, Tufa won the Ottawa Marathon with a new course record. On November 2nd, Tigist Tufa won the marathon in Shanghai with a personal best of 2:21:52 h and also set a new course record here.

London Marathon 2015

In April 2015 she won the London Marathon in 2:23:21 h. She was the first Ethiopian after her compatriot Derartu Tulu , who won here in 2001.
At the 2015 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, she finished sixth behind the winner, her compatriot Mare Dibaba .

2016 Summer Olympics

In the World Marathon Majors 2015/16 (running cup valuation with 8 races) she took fifth place in February 2016. In April 2016 she finished second in London.

In 2016 she started the marathon for Ethiopia at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but could not finish the race on August 14th.

She was tenth in the tenth series of the World Marathon Majors in April 2017.
