Mare Dibaba (born October 20, 1989 in Shewa ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner .

Career

In 2008 she was eighth in the Delhi Half Marathon and won the Peuerbach New Year's Eve run .

In 2009, she became a national of Azerbaijan . A start at the Junior European Championships was planned under the new name Mare İbrahimova ; In the run-up it turned out, however, that she was not born in 1991, as reported, but in 1989, which meant that her starting authorization was invalid. She finished sixth at the Delhi Half Marathon that year.

In early 2010, the change of nationality was revised and the athlete returned to her old name. In the RAK half marathon she set an Ethiopian record in second with 1:07:13 h, and in the Rome marathon she was third in 2:25:38 h on her debut over the 42.195 km distance. A fifth place followed in the Frankfurt Marathon in autumn .

In 2011 she was third in the RAK half marathon and the Los Angeles marathon and won the Yangzhou Jianzhen half marathon . She won gold at the Half Marathon of the Pan-African Games in Maputo . She finished second in the Toronto Waterfront Marathon and sixth in the Delhi Half Marathon.

At the beginning of the 2012 season, she finished third in the Dubai Marathon with a personal best of 2:19:52 h . She was also part of the Ethiopian team for the 2012 Summer Olympics . In London , Dibaba covered the Olympic marathon distance in 2: 28.48 hours. So she ranked 23rd in the final ranking. In 2014 she finished third in the 2014 Boston Marathon and second in the 2014 Chicago Marathon .

In 2015 she set her personal best of 2:19:52 h in Xiamen. At 2015 Boston Marathon she came second. On August 30, 2015, she won the marathon of the World Championships in Beijing in 2:27:35 h.

The following year she won the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro .

The 1.51 meter tall Dibaba, which has been trained by Haji Adoli since 2009, weighed in at a competition weight of 38 kg in 2012.
