Junko Asari

Junko Asari ( Japanese 浅 利 純 子 , Asari Junko ; born September 22, 1969 in Kazuno ) is a former Japanese marathon runner .

She competed in her first marathon in 1991. As early as 1992, she ran under two and a half hours for the first time with 2:28:57 h, and in 1993 she won the Osaka Women's Marathon . At the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993 , the Portuguese Maria Manuela Machado led to 36 km. Then she was overtaken by Junko Asari, who ran out a clear lead to the finish. Asari won in 2:30:03 h before Machado in 2:30:54 h and the second Japanese Tomoe Abe in 2:31:01 h.

In 1994 Junko Asari was third in Osaka and set her personal best with 2:26:10 h; In 1998 she came within a second of this mark in second place in the Rotterdam Marathon . In 1995 and 1998 she won the Tokyo International Women's Marathon .

At the marathon of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she finished 17th in 2:34:31 h.

With a height of 1.64 m, her competition weight was 42 kg.
