Vienna half marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vienna Half Marathon (officially called the Vienna Half Marathon ) is a fun run roughly the half-marathon distance in Vienna , which has been taking place since 2000 and is one of the largest in Austria.

organization

This running event over around 21 km was first held in 2000 as the “Vienna Danube Island Half Marathon”. From 2001 to 2016 the run was held under the name Wien Energie Half Marathon . The Vienna Half Marathon does not have a precisely measured route and is therefore officially a fun run .

For many starters, this is also a preparation for the Vienna Marathon , which takes place a month later. In addition to the “half marathon”, there is also the “Raiffeisen Fun Run” over 6.8 km.

In 2005 the Austrian Athletics Association determined the national champions in the half marathon.

The route begins at the center of the Danube and goes over three laps along the Upper Old Danube. At the 16th edition in March 2015 there were 3500 participants at the start. The next Vienna Half Marathon will take place on March 26, 2017.

Course records

In 2006, the Kenyan Charles Gnolepus achieved the fastest time ever run in Austria.
