Eva-Maria Gradwohl (* 29. March 1973 as Eva-Maria Wilfing ) is a former Austrian long-distance runner , focusing on the marathon had specialized.

Career

Cycling until 1991

The Styrian business in their youth cycling and was in 26th at the Junior World Championships 1990 best Austrian. A year later she ended her career in the sport.

She is mother of a son born in 1994 and lives in Baierdorf near Anger .

Eva-Maria Gradwohl is 1.68 m tall, her competition weight is 58 kg and she started for the SV ADA Happy Lauf Anger . She was trained by Harald Bauer.

Marathon since 1998

In 1998 she started the marathon distance for the first time and finished the Vienna City Marathon in 3:10 hours. A year later she was third in the Graz Marathon in 2:50 hours. In 2000 and 2001, she was Austrian runner-up in the 5000 and 10,000 meter runs and in the half marathon .

In 2002 she became Austrian champion in the half marathon, won the Wachau marathon on the half marathon route with 1:14:47 h and won the Graz marathon (which she was to win in the next four years) in 2:40:39 h . The following year, she won the national half-marathon and marathon titles (the latter at the Vienna City Marathon in 2:39:48 hrs) and set a national record in the half marathon at 1:13:25 hrs.

In 2004 she was fourth in the Vienna City Marathon in 2:38:04 h and Austrian champion over 5000 meters. In the following season she was again national champion in the half marathon, second in the Vienna City Marathon and ninth in the Berlin Marathon .

In 2006 she finished second in the Stockholm Marathon . When she won the Graz Marathon for the fifth time, she not only improved the course record, but also her personal best to 2:37:32 h.

In 2007 she won the Linz Marathon and the Salzburg Marathon in quick succession , won the national title in the half marathon, finished tenth in the Berlin Marathon, setting her personal record to 2:36:21 h and won the half marathon route of the Graz Marathon with course record.

Olympic Games 2008

Her greatest success was the win at the Linz Marathon 2008 in 2:30:51 h. With this she not only set an Austrian record, but also clearly undercut the limit of 2:33 hours that the ÖLV had set for participation in the 2008 Olympic Games . At the Olympic marathon in Beijing she came in 57th.

In 2009 she won again at the Linz Marathon and the half marathon competition in Graz and won the Florence Marathon . In 2010 she won her fourth Linz marathon victory in a row.

From 2006 to 2012, the former cross-country skier and cross-country trainer Walter Mayer was her partner. Her sister Monika Wilfing was also active in long-distance running and triathlon during this time .

Doping affair and end of career in 2010

On April 29, 2010, while on vacation in Medulin ( Croatia ), NADA Austria scheduled a doping test for her when she was about to go on a planned boat tour with friends.

There was a scandal in which her partner Walter Mayer insulted the doping control officers and finally Gradwohl refused the control despite being instructed about the consequences. On May 3, Gradwohl was suspended and proceedings were initiated for a violation of doping regulations .
At the same time, the athlete announced her retirement from competitive sport and justified her action with frustration at the restrictions she was exposed to in her personal life as a result of doping monitoring. Walter Mayer apologized for his behavior on May 6th and certified the NADA emissaries for correct behavior, after he had called them “pigs and assholes” two days earlier.
In July 2010, NADA issued a ban on the athlete for two years.
