Linz Danube Marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Linz Danube Marathon is an annually since 2002 taking place in April marathon in Linz . In addition to the classic 42.195 km route, there is a half marathon , a quarter marathon over 10.5 km, a relay marathon and competitions for hand bikers and inline skaters (since 2005).

history

The marathon route starts on the VÖEST bridge of the A 7 , runs through the Urfahr district in the first half and through the city center in the second half , before reaching the finish on the main square . With a difference of 18 m between the lowest and the highest point, it is extremely flat.

In 2010 the Austrian Athletics Association (ÖLV) subsequently revoked the marathon route's suitability for the best list , as a section at the turning point in Steyregg had been shortened by 201.56 meters compared to the course officially measured with the Jones counter for safety reasons . The organizer had measured the route with GPS technology , but this method is not recognized by the ÖLV and the IAAF .

The marathon race was held between 2003 and 2011 as the OMV Linz Marathon and from 2012 to 2016 as the Borealis Linz Danube Marathon . Since 2017 the race has been called the Oberbank Linz Danube Marathon , as the previous namesake Borealis swapped with Oberbank and has sponsored the half marathon since 2017. The naming is always based on the main sponsor of the marathon. Oberbank sponsored the half marathon until 2016.

After it was held in 2016, the junior marathon came under fire and the organizer considered canceling the three- and four-year-olds for 2017.

In April 2019, the Austrian state championships on the marathon and half-marathon distance were held here again.

The marathon was scheduled for April 5th in 2020 but was canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic .
