Martin Pröll (born March 21, 1981 in Freistadt ) is a former Austrian obstacle runner and long-distance runner and multiple Austrian champion.

Career

In 2002, 2004 and 2005 he was Austrian champion in the 3000 meter obstacle course.

At the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 , he finished seventh. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he was eliminated in the semifinals. In 2005 he set his best time in this discipline with 8: 13.74 minutes, and at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg he was ninth.

He also has successes in long-distance running. In 2003 he became Austrian champion over 5000 m and in 2006 over 5000 m and 10,000 m . In 2007 he was runner-up in the Lucerne city run and national champion in cross-country running (short distance), in the 10 km road run and in the half marathon (at the same time third place overall in the half marathon competition of the Wachau Marathon ). He set his half marathon best time of 1:04:32 h at the 2007 road running world championships , where he finished 61st.

In 2008 he surprisingly won the Paderborn Easter run over 10 km in a time of 28:46 minutes . Furthermore, in 2008 he won the Austrian Cross Country Championship over the short distance and also the Austrian Indoor Championship over 3 km. In 2010 Pröll won the Austrian state championship in the 10,000 meter run with a two and a half minute lead.

In March 2009, Pröll ended his collaboration with sports manager Stefan Matschiner after investigations into doping were started. These were triggered by statements made by triathlete Lisa Hütthaler .

Today Pröll works as a freelance photographer for weddings, portraits and architecture.
