The Kagraner Brücke is the only road bridge over the Old Danube in Vienna and is located in the 22nd district of Donaustadt .

The Kagran Bridge in its current form was opened on October 7, 1977 after the bridge at that time was blown up towards the end of the Second World War and a new bridge was then built, which was put into operation in November 1945. The bridge structure was built and planned by Waagner Biro while maintaining the span of 31.9 meters and a width of 22.5 meters. The master builder work was carried out by the Porr company.

The general supply situation forced the planners to use steel sheets stored in the factory and to choose a bridge construction that was adapted to the material. A grate girder bridge was erected with eight welded solid wall girders , which supported a 20 cm thick reinforced concrete ceiling with a leveling layer, an insulating layer and a protective concrete layer above. The actual road surface was a 10 centimeter thick wooden pavement .

Welding work began in the Waagner Biro workshops on August 7, 1945 and was largely completed on October 10. After completion of the assembly work on the bridge construction site, the concreting of the carriageway slab began on October 15. The bridge, which was navigable from November 5, was subjected to the stress test on November 14, 1945.

In the course of the expansion of Wagramer Strasse, it was also necessary to widen the Kagraner Bridge. This had to take place without interrupting road traffic.

In June 1975, construction work began on the bridge structure located upstream. After its completion, all bridge installations were relocated to the new bridge and road traffic was swiveled onto it. In August 1976, work began on the second structure.

The only roadblock necessary during the construction period took place during the night from Saturday to Sunday, when the gap between the two supporting structures was filled with concrete.

The tram track was later removed.

The Kagran Bridge connects the districts of Kagran and Kaisermühlen and divides the Old Danube into the Upper Old Danube and the Lower Old Danube . It is part of the B8 on Wagramer Strasse and is a direct extension of the Reichsbrücke and UNO-City . At the northeast end of the bridge is located at the intersection Wagramerstraße / Archduke Karl road links to the tram , which at the southwestern end Old subway station Danube .
