Carl Zuckmayer Medal

The Carl Zuckmayer Medal is a literary prize that has been awarded by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1979 in memory of Carl Zuckmayer "for services to the German language and to the artistic word" .

Modalities

The winners are selected by a commission chaired by the Minister of Education. The medal was created by the Palatinate artist Otto Kallenbach . The culture prize is presented together with a 30-liter wine barrel from Nackenheim , Zuckmayer's birthplace. The award ceremony takes place every year on January 18, on the occasion of the death of Zuckmayer. While the literary prize used to be awarded in the State Chancellery of the Prime Minister in Mainz , for some years now the prize has been presented in a ceremony in the State Theater in Mainz .
