Dieter Kühn (born February 1, 1935 in Cologne , † July 25, 2015 in Brühl (Rhineland) ) was a German writer .

Life

Dieter Kühn attended elementary school in Herrsching am Ammersee and the grammar school in Munich . After the family moved to Düren in 1949, he passed the Abitur at the Stiftisches Gymnasium there in 1955 and then studied German and English at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Munich and Bonn . He then visited the United States and was an assistant at Haverford College for a year . In 1964 he was with a thesis on Robert Musil's novel The Man Without Qualities doctorate . Kühn had been a writer since 1965. In 1993 Kühn held the Frankfurt Poetics Lectures at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt .

Dieter Kühn's extensive work includes novels , stories , biographies , children's books , essays , poems , plays and radio plays , some of which he directed himself. He has also emerged as a translator of Middle High German classics. Me Wolkenstein , his biography of Oswald von Wolkenstein , and his transmissions of Parzival by Wolfram von Eschenbach and Tristan by Gottfried von Straßburg were "a literary sensation because they opened up a completely new approach to the Middle Ages".

Dieter Kühn was a member of the PEN Center Germany . He last lived in Brühl near Cologne and was buried on July 31, 2015 in the Melaten cemetery (hallway 28 no. 95) in Cologne.

In July 2016 it became known that Kühn's estate was donated to the German Literature Archive in Marbach .
