Charles Wirths (born March 19, 1926 in what is now Wuppertal ; † March 28, 2012 ) was a German actor .

biography

Wirths began his stage career in his hometown of Wuppertal. Engagements in Bremen, Hanover, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart followed. He worked in both spoken and musical theater. In 1988 he played in Hans Werner Henze's song cycle Voices under the direction of Volker Kühn at the Alte Oper Frankfurt.

He was a rare guest in film and television productions. Here he was, for example, in Franz Peter Wirth's adaptation of Jean Anouilh's Jeanne or Die Lerche , in the Durbridge filming Verräter , in Eberhard Itzenplitz's drama The misunderstanding in the life of Mr Knöbel , in Der silk shoe (based on Paul Claudel ) and in the multi-part series The silk Schuh (with Maximilian Schell in the lead role). In addition, he took on guest roles in television series such as Graf Yoster gives himself the honor , The night courier reports , The strange methods of Franz Josef Wanninger and Das Kriminalmuseum .

The focus of his artistic work, however, came to the radio. Wirths lent his voice to over 150 productions, such as the short radio play series Der Frauenarzt von Bischofsbrück (SDR), Bernd Lau's lavish setting of the Lord of the Rings and as " Inspector Beck " in various detective radio plays by SDR, SWF and WDR based on the novels by Sjöwall and Wahlöö . He also played the detective Ken Daly in three multi-part crime novels by Roderick Wilkinson , which the SR produced in the 1960s.
