Commissioner Beck - The new cases (from season 2: Commissioner Beck ; original title: Beck ) is a 38-part crime series from a Swedish-German co-production. It is based on motifs from the ten-volume series of novels published between 1965 and 1975 about a crime by the Swedish author couple Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö .

The series is about a team of investigators from the Stockholm Criminal Police, led by Martin Beck.

General

After six of the ten novels about Martin Beck had been filmed in 1993 and 1994 , the production of eight new films began in 1997. Since the stories were now based solely on the motifs of the cult books by the Swedish author couple Sjöwall and Wahlöö around the old fictional characters, the series was marketed under the name Kommissar Beck - The New Cases . While Das Erste was the community partner in the first season , the series ran from the second season in Germany on ZDF , which did without the title addition The new cases . Peter Haber achieved international fame with the portrayal of Martin Beck, as the series could be sold in many countries. A large part of the supporting actors was always switched between the broadcast seasons, over the years only Peter Haber, Mikael Persbrandt, Ingvar Hirdwall, Rebecka Hemse and Peter Hüttner remained loyal to the series. Stina Rautelin, who starred in the series in 1997 and 1998, returned in the third season. A special feature of the first season was that the forensic doctor Oljelund's actor, the Swedish actor Peter Hüttner , was replaced by the German actor Ottfried Fischer for the German version .

On January 27, 2014, Nordisk Film & TV Fond announced the production of 8 more episodes. It was first broadcast on Swedish television. The first 4 episodes of the 5th season were broadcast on ZDF in autumn 2015, the remaining 4 episodes in autumn 2016.

main actor

Martin Beck - Peter Haber , German dubbing voice Dieter Memel

Martin Beck is the head of the investigation team of the Stockholm Criminal Police, around which the series revolves. He is divorced and has two children with his ex-wife Agneta. He has a close and good relationship with his daughter Inger, his son Michael Sjögren, who had disappeared by then, is shot in episode 1.02 Hot Snow , which plunges him into a deep crisis. He's even considering giving up his job. Martin Beck lives alone in an apartment in Stockholm and usually only has contact with his quirky neighbor, who always wears a ruff and red tinted sunglasses. While he seems to feel annoyed and annoyed by his neighbor at the beginning of the series, the two are closer friends in the third season. Towards the end of the first season, Martin begins a brief relationship with his colleague Lena Klingström, which ends when she is transferred to Malmö. As he himself admits in episode 3.03 The Game of Death , the failure of this relationship was a sign of personal failure for him. Beck's archenemy is the criminal king Ivan Lennart Gavling, who mostly acts in the background in several episodes of the first season. He knows Gavling from his first case, in which he dropped a baby from the eighth floor of a skyscraper while robbing a young family. In episode 1.06, The Death Trap , Gavling is killed by Beck.

Gunvald Larsson - Mikael Persbrandt , German dubbing voice Philipp Moog

Gunvald Larsson is Martin Beck's partner and has worked with him for many years. He is good at dancing, hates jazz and speaks nine languages. He, too, has a personal crisis to overcome when he accidentally runs over a young girl in episode 1.04 Couriers of Death . In order to cope with and process this, he even thinks of adopting an " anchor child ". He is very irascible, tends to use unconventional investigative methods that violate service regulations, is quickly irritated during interrogation and does not shy away from using violence against suspects. As a result, he has been temporarily suspended several times and was about to be released from the police force. Gunvald's father disappeared without a trace a few years ago, and he also sees his sister Lillemor in episode 3.01 Broken Dreams for the first time in many years. In the third season he befriends Beck's daughter Inger, whose son Wilhelm is the same age as Gunvald's niece Simone, whom he takes care of in his spare time after the suicide of Lillemor's husband. Gunvald likes to wear expensive suits, preferably by Armani .

Lena Klingström - Stina Rautelin , German dubbing voice Elisabeth Günther

Lena Klingström is the investigator in Martin Beck's team in the first and third season. She studied criminology at university, but then decided to train with the police. In episode 1.01 The Decoy , Benny Skacke and Gunvald raise her as a "cyber cop" because of her computer skills. In the episode Russian Roulette - following The Decoy in the original chronological order - she is ordered to join Martin's investigation team without the consent of Martin, but the corresponding scene is cut out in the German version. In episode 1.03, an eye for an eye , she is left by her long-time friend Stig. This experience and the violent suicide of serial killer Karin Lofjat that took place shortly afterwards had a traumatic effect on her at first. She has a brief relationship with Martin, which ends when she accepts a job in Malmö. In episode 3.02 The Dead Girl , Lena returns to Stockholm and, at Gunvald's request, applies for the position in her former team that was open after Alice Levander left. Lena doesn't want to talk about the reason for her return from Malmö. In episode 3.03, The Game of Death , she is almost raped by a criminal, which can only be prevented by the intervention of Gunvald.

Alice Levander - Malin Birgerson , German dubbing voice Claudia Lössl

Alice Levander complements the investigation team after Lena Klingström was transferred to Malmö. The relationship between her and Gunvald is always tense. Her whereabouts - as well as that of many supporting actors - are unclear, after the end of the second season she no longer appeared.
