From 2005 to 2007 he was deputy chairman of the CDU district association, of which he is still a member today. Since 2004 he was chairman of the Trier CDU city council group. Adams gave up the office of CDU parliamentary group leader and all other political offices after losing the state parliament mandate in the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2011 .

MP

Berti Adams gained his first experience in local politics from 1984 to 1989 in the Trier-Ehrang local council. Since 1989 he has been a member of the Trier city council. On March 1, 2009, he succeeded the former state and parliamentary group chairman of the CDU, Christoph Böhr, in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . In the state parliament he was a secretary and member of the committee for agriculture and viticulture and the committee for the environment, forests and consumer protection.

In the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2011 , he ran as a direct candidate for constituency 25 (Trier city) and was ranked 38th on the state list. After the CDU was able to claim 41 seats in Rhineland-Palatinate, Adams, after losing the direct mandate against Malu Dreyer, initially slipped over the state list as the last member of the new state parliament. However, due to an error in the counting of postal votes in the Mainz II constituency , the CDU politician Wolfgang Reichel was subsequently able to win a direct mandate for the state parliament by 13 votes ahead of his competitor and the original winner of the constituency, Doris Ahnen . Adams subsequently slipped to number 42 and lost his place in the newly elected state parliament. As a consequence, he immediately resigned from his position as chairman of the CDU city council group.
