Wolfgang Reichel (born June 4, 1951 in Oberhausen ) is a Rhineland-Palatinate politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Reichel was born in Oberhausen as the third of six children. After the family moved to Fulda, he attended a high school there. At the age of 18 he decided to train at the Federal Border Police in Fulda. For the BGS, he worked for eight years in the flight security service at international locations .

Early on he was involved in the Catholic student youth. So it was only logical that he opted for further training as part of vocational support at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Mainz . He finished his studies as a qualified social worker . After five years as a city youth worker in Ingelheim am Rhein , he switched to the State Office for Youth and Social Affairs in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1985 . Shortly after taking up his post, Wolfgang Reichel was Chairman of the General Staff Council at the State Office for Youth and Social Affairs. Since 1970 he is a union member, first with the public workers' union , and later with the Ver.di .

Reichel has an adult son and has lived in Mainz since 1970 .

politics

In 1979, Wolfgang Reichel was elected youth and social policy spokesman for the Mainz CDU city council group. Since 1984 he was a member of the Mainz city council, most recently as deputy chairman of his parliamentary group. In 1995 he was elected full-time head of the green and environment department of the state capital Mainz; In 2003 he was re-elected until 2011.

From 2011 to 2016, Wolfgang Reichel was a directly elected member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament in the Mainz II constituency . He won the constituency by 13 votes ahead of the Rhineland-Palatinate Education Minister Doris Ahnen . What is curious about the result is that a forgotten postal ballot box, which was only found the day after the state election , led to the direct mandate. In 2016 he lost the direct mandate again to ancestors and missed the re-entry into the state parliament via the state list.

Reichel was the environmental policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group and mainly dealt with the issue of aircraft noise. He was a member of the Environment, Forestry, Agriculture, Food and Viticulture Committee, the Media and Network Policy Committee and the Petitions Committee. As a deputy member of the Civic Participation Study Commission, he was committed to giving fellow citizens a greater say, for example in major projects.

In 2009 Reichel also became district chairman of the CDU Mainz-Stadt. He held this post until his retirement in September 2016.
