history

Sparkasse Trier emerged from three formerly independent institutes:

  • Kreissparkasse Trier (founded on August 8, 1893)
  • Kreissparkasse Saarburg (founded on December 22nd, 1856)
  • Stadtsparkasse Trier (founded on January 7, 1826)

First, on January 1, 1972, the Kreissparkasse Trier merged with the Kreissparkasse Saarburg to form the Kreissparkasse Trier-Saarburg.

On January 1, 1995, the Kreissparkasse Trier-Saarburg merged with the Stadtsparkasse Trier to form the current Sparkasse Trier, which at the time of the merger was the second largest savings bank in Rhineland-Palatinate.
