history

Foundation of the Bavarian State Fire Insurance Institution

The roots of today's Versicherungskammer Bayern group go back to 1811. In that year, King Maximilian I Joseph (1756-1825) bundled all of Bavaria's existing fire insurance institutions in the General Fire Insurance Company for the Kingdom of Bavaria ( Bavarian State Fire Insurance Company ).

1875 to 1994: State Authority

The Bavarian State Brandversicherungsanstalt in 1875 passed by a decree of King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the management of a central state authority. The royal law justified the construction of the Royal Bavarian fire insurance chamber , the creator and head of the lawyer and farmer Matthew of Jodlbauer was. In 1890 the fire insurance company for the Rhine Palatinate, which was united with Bavaria after the Congress of Vienna (founded in 1817), was merged with the Bavarian state fire insurance company. In 1884 the newly founded Bavarian State Shale Insurance Company and in 1896 a state cattle insurance company were incorporated into the authority. In the course of this, the fire insurance chamber was reorganized and renamed the Royal Bavarian Insurance Chamber in 1896, and then in 1918 the Bavarian Insurance Chamber .

In the 1920s, the Insurance Chamber was involved in the establishment of new public law institutions that expanded the public insurance system in Bavaria to include additional types of insurance. In 1920 the composite insurer Bayerischer Versicherungsverband was founded (initially renamed under the name Bayerischer Feuersicherungsverband as a public-law provider of furniture fire insurance, in 1921). B. motor vehicle, liability, accident and storm insurance offered. In 1926 the Bavarian Official Health Insurance Fund was added. Both insurers have been assigned to the Bavarian Insurance Chamber since it was founded . In 1922 the life insurer Bayern-Versicherung was founded with the participation of the Savings Banks Association of Bavaria and the Cooperative Association of Bavaria ; However, Bayern-Versicherung was not integrated into the group until 1999.

After the Second World War and the currency reform , the Bavarian Insurance Chamber continued to be an authority affiliated to the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior , which managed the business of insurance companies. In addition to the Bavarian Insurance Association , the Bayerische Beamtenkrankenkasse and the Bavarian State Fire Insurance Agency , it also managed eleven pension institutions , some of which operate nationwide , including compulsory professional care for doctors, pharmacists, dentists and architects.

From 1995: Development into an insurance group

In the course of the liberalization of the European internal market, the state building insurance monopolies in all EU member states ceased to exist on July 1, 1994 (Article 3 Directive 92/49 / EEC); this also affected the business activities of the Bayerische Landesbrandversicherungsanstalt . With the "Law for the Reorganization of the Legal Relationships of the Public Insurance Institutions of the Free State of Bavaria", the Free State decided in July 1994 to completely withdraw from the insurance business, to dissolve the Bavarian Insurance Chamber as an authority and to re-establish it as an institution under public law. The Bavarian Insurance Association , the Bavarian Official Health Insurance Fund and the Bavarian State Fire Insurance Company were converted into stock corporations; the administration of the supply companies was brought together in the Bavarian Supply Chamber. In 1995, the insurance companies were the Bavarian Chamber of Insurance by the State to the Bavarian Savings Bank Association and the Savings Banks Association Rhineland-Palatinate sold. In July 1995, the Versicherungskammer Bayern insurance company, now acting as a holding company, replaced the Bavarian Insurance Chamber .

From then on, their products were also sold through the Sparkasse branches in Bavaria and the Palatinate. In 1997, the Versicherungskammer Bayern Group Rückversicherung AG, a reinsurer of its own, was founded in the group. In 1999 Bayern-Versicherung , which was owned by the two savings bank associations and the Bavarian cooperative association and had not been included in the scope of consolidation of the group, was converted into a stock corporation and consolidated.

The private health insurance UKV - Union Krankenversicherung , founded in 1979 as a joint venture by ten public-law insurers, was brought into the newly founded holding company Consal Beteiligungsgesellschaft AG in 2000 together with Bayerische Beamtenkrankenkasse AG , which from now on is the health insurance business of the insurance chamber and the other public insurers bundled. The newly founded Union Reiseversicherung AG has also been operating under this roof since 2001 .

With the acquisition of a majority stake (51.1%) of the likewise already belonging to the Savings Banks Finance Group companies Saarland fire insurance AG and Saarland life insurance AG extended (both founded in 1951), the regionally focused business model "insurer of the Regions" in 2002 to the Saarland . The Insurance Chamber has held 100 percent of the shares in both companies since 2018.

The Insurance Chamber Group has also been active in Berlin and Brandenburg since 2004. This year, a consortium led by the Bavarian Insurance Chamber took over the fire society Berlin Brandenburg and its associated Public Life Insurance Berlin Brandenburg , which had previously been owned by the states of Berlin and Brandenburg. The fire society / public life insurance company has been part of the group since 2011 .

In 2005, the Insurance Chamber Group took over Ostdeutsche Versicherung AG ( OVAG ), which was founded in 1995 . From the end of 2008 he established the “BavariaDirekt” brand belonging to OVAG , a digital insurer active in the online business .

In 2008 the Bayerische Beamtenkrankenkasse bought the private health insurer BBV Krankenversicherung from the Bayerische Beamtenversicherung .
