The East German insurance AG (OVAG) with the brand Bavaria Direct is a German insurance company . As a subsidiary, it is wholly owned by the Versicherungskammer Bayern (VKB) and is part of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe .
history
On April 23, 1991 OVAG was founded with its headquarters in Berlin. It offered private customers car and liability, accident, household, glass and residential building insurance. Initially, OVAG's offer was aimed primarily at public service employees, and from 1994 onwards to all private customers in the eastern German states and Berlin.
In 2005, the Berlin OVAG was integrated into the Versicherungskammer Bayern group. The Bavarian Insurance Chamber, based in Munich, is the largest public insurer in Germany . It is also a member of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, which with 590 companies, around 349,500 employees and a combined business volume of around 2,880 billion euros is the largest group of credit institutions in Germany and Europe.
Due to the rapid development of direct and online business, OVAG launched its own online brand, BavariaDirekt, in 2008. BavariaDirekt insurance can be taken out directly over the Internet. In addition, BavariaDirekt sells its products across Germany through selected cooperation partners.
Today OVAG's products are sold exclusively under the BavariaDirekt brand.
Products
Under the brand BavariaDirekt, OVAG offers motor vehicle liability, partially and fully comprehensive insurance, occupant accident protection and motor vehicle insurance. Their offer also includes personal liability and dog liability insurance as well as household contents insurance and the assistance product “ Schutzbrief SorglosWohnen” . In addition, it procures products from other VKB Group subsidiaries and the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe in the areas of care and health, legal protection and travel.
