The Bavarian Beamtenkrankenkasse Aktiengesellschaft ( BBKK ) is a German private health insurance , based in Munich that the Group of Bayern Versicherungskammer belongs.

Despite its name, the BBKK is not a health insurance company in the sense of the fifth book of the Social Security Code , but a private health insurer.

history

In 1926 the Bavarian Insurance Chamber founded the Bavarian Official Health Insurance Fund as a health insurance company for civil servants . After the Second World War and the currency reform of 1948 , there was a constant change for the Insurance Chamber from the administrative state authority to a modern commercial enterprise.

The company is wholly owned by Consal Beteiligungsgesellschaft , an organizational holding company of the Bavarian Insurance Chamber . The BBKK holds 10 percent of the shares in Union Krankenversicherung (UKV).

As of December 31, 2016, the BBKK had 1.87 million insured persons, of which 336,000 were in full medical expenses insurance, 1.06 million in supplementary medical expenses insurance and 468,000 in aid replacement insurance.
