Today's Sparkasse Rhein-Haardt emerged from the merger of a total of 13 savings banks. At the behest of the royal Bavarian government, the first predecessor institution, the Sparkasse Frankenthal, was founded in 1835, but it did not start operating until later. This was followed by Dürkheim and Grünstadt (both 1837), Haßloch and Freinsheim (both 1841), Neustadt (1843 and 1844), Lambrecht (1851), Weidenthal (1865), Deidesheim (1889) and Weisenheim am Sand (1912).

In the 1930s, the savings bank system in the region was restructured, so that the Kreissparkassen Neustadt (1938), Bad Dürkheim and Grünstadt (both 1939) were founded.

The Kreissparkasse Neustadt and Bad Dürkheim merged in 1971 to form the Kreissparkasse Bad Dürkheim, one year later the Stadtsparkasse Lambrecht was taken over. The merger with Kreissparkasse Grünstadt followed in 1996. In 2001, the Kreissparkasse Bad Dürkheim and Stadtsparkasse Neustadt merged to form Sparkasse Mittelhaardt - Deutsche Weinstrasse. In the course of the merger with Sparkasse Frankenthal in 2004, the name of the institute was changed to Sparkasse Rhein-Haardt.
