history

The predecessor institutions of today's Kreissparkasse Kusel are the district savings banks Kusel, Lauterecken and Wolfstein, founded in 1878 . Initially, the Kusel and Wolfstein savings banks, renamed "Bezirkssparkasse" in 1925 and "Kreissparkasse" in 1939, merged in 1959. The Lauterecken district savings bank was finally taken over in 1966.

Up until the 1950s, the institutes only had a few branches in their business area. Then the branch network was expanded rapidly due to the increasing demand and reached its peak with 44 branches by 1978. Since then, the number of business outlets has fallen back to nine, and the Sparkassenbus, a mobile branch for supplying cash in rural areas, was also discontinued in 2017.
