history
The establishment of the savings bank began in 1854 with the royal order to set up a savings institute for the Ahrkreis. The district, savings and loan fund of the Ahrweiler district was opened on April 24, 1865. The district council elected Peter Maxrath as the first rendant, and his first business premises were located in his apartment on Niederhutstrasse in Ahrweiler.
At the end of the 19th century, the Sparkasse bought a piece of land in front of the Niedertor in Ahrweiler in order to build a new headquarters there. This was inaugurated in 1901. More than 100 years later, this building was again demolished in order to build a new main office there, which was opened in May 2013.
